FoodMe Pro ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application. This policy is designed to meet the requirements of the Apple App Store and applicable privacy laws.
Data Types We Collect (App Store Privacy)
In line with Apple's App Privacy details, we disclose the following:
- Identifiers: Device identifiers and similar data may be collected by us and our third-party partners (e.g., for analytics and advertising).
- Usage Data: How you use the app (e.g., recipe searches, saved recipes, calorie tracking) is collected to provide and improve the service.
- Data linked to you: When you use the app, some data (such as usage and device information) may be associated with your app instance or anonymous account for providing features and support.
- Data used for tracking: Our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may use data for advertising purposes. You can limit ad tracking in your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Tracking / Advertising).
Information We Collect
Personal and Account Information
- Account Information: When you use the app, we may use anonymous authentication (e.g., Firebase Anonymous Auth) that creates an identifier to provide features; we do not require your name or email unless you contact support.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you use our app, including recipe searches, saved recipes, and calorie tracking data.
- Device Information: We collect device identifiers, operating system version, and app version for technical support and analytics.
Camera Access
- Barcode Scanning: With your permission, we access your device's camera to scan product barcodes for nutritional information.
- Data Processing: Barcode data is processed to retrieve nutritional information from our database and third-party APIs.
Analytics and Performance
- Usage Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with our app.
- Crash Reports: We collect crash reports to improve app stability and performance.
In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Subscription and in-app purchase transactions are processed by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information. We receive from Apple only the information necessary to provide your premium entitlements (e.g., that you have an active subscription). How We Use Your Information
Primary Uses
- Recipe Generation: To create personalized recipes based on your ingredients and preferences.
- Calorie Tracking: To help you track your daily nutritional intake and goals.
- App Improvement: To enhance app functionality and user experience.
- Customer Support: To provide technical support and respond to your inquiries.
Third-Party AI (OpenAI) – Recipe and meal plan generation
When you use Generate Recipe or Generate Meal Plan, we send the following data to our servers and then to OpenAI so they can create your recipe or meal plan:
- For recipes: The ingredients you enter, meal type (e.g. breakfast, dinner), dietary preferences, and whether you requested a basic or detailed recipe.
- For meal plans: Your calorie goal, dietary preferences, and the number of days for the plan.
How we collect it: You provide this data in the app when you tap Generate. We do not send it until you have agreed in the app to share data with our AI provider.
How it is used: This data is used only to generate your recipe or meal plan. We do not use your inputs to train AI models. OpenAI processes the data under their API terms and privacy policy and provides data protection consistent with our requirements. For more information, see OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
You can revoke consent at any time in Settings → AI recipe & meal plan. After revoking, we will ask for your permission again before the next generation.
Other third-party services
We also use the following services. Each may collect and process data as described in their privacy policies:
- Firebase (Google): Analytics, crash reporting, and backend services. Firebase Privacy.
- USDA Database: Nutritional information is sourced from the USDA Food Database.
- Open Food Facts: Additional product information is sourced from the Open Food Facts database.
- Google AdMob: We display advertisements for free users. AdMob may collect identifiers and use data for advertising; you can control ad personalization in your device settings. Google Privacy Policy.
Advertising and Tracking
For users on the free tier, we show ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may use data (including identifiers) for ad delivery and measurement. This data may be used for purposes that qualify as "tracking" under Apple's definition. You can limit ad tracking via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (or Advertising) on your device.
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
- Recipe data, calorie entries, and preferences are stored locally on your device.
- This data is not automatically synced to our servers unless you have a premium subscription.
Cloud Storage (Premium Users)
- Premium subscribers can sync their data across devices using secure cloud storage.
- All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Data Retention
- We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our services.
- You can delete your account and associated data at any time through the app settings.
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Control
- View Your Data: You can view data we hold about you through the app.
- Delete Your Data: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app settings.
- Opt-Out: You can limit analytics and ad tracking via your device settings as described above.
Camera Permissions
- You can revoke camera access at any time through your device settings.
- Barcode scanning will not work without camera permission.
Subscription Management
- You can manage your subscription through your App Store account.
- Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Children's Privacy
Our app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
International Users
If you are using our app from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We take steps to protect your information in line with applicable law.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
